The Ducal castle of Mirroralso known as “The Watchtower of Pay Arias”.”, is a fortification of the 13th century located at the top of the municipality of Espejo (Cordoba), at 418 metres altitude, It is one of the highest points in the surrounding countryside.
Although its origins are medieval, this place was important long before: here was the site of the oppidum ibero of Ucubi, It is an enclave that experienced historical events such as the siege of Ategua during the Second Roman Civil War, in the time of Julius Caesar.
After the Christian conquest, a new fortress was built on top of previous structures with a clear objective: to defend this border area of the Nasrid kingdom of Granada. With the passing of time, the castle changed hands until it currently belongs to the Duchy of Osuna.
